Expanding Horizons

Australian Student Exchange Program

We are extremely fortunate to have a student exchange program with Woodleigh School in Melbourne Australia. Every year a select few of our students embark on a fantastic journey to become students at Woodleigh High School following their classes and living as an Australian student. Another great part of the adventure is living with a Woodleigh student's family, being part of their lives and overcoming cultural boundaries. Moreover, we welcome some of Woodleigh's students here to live with our students, join our classes and become part of our family.

This has proven to be an amazing opportunity for our students as lifelong friendships have been created and new levels of confidence have been set.

Extracurricular

Every academic year, SPM offers numerous extracurricular for the students. i.e. Basketball, badminton, Taekwondo, Futsal, and much more.

Internal & External Competitions

Unleashing Potential is a defining characteristic of our school. This requires exposure to growth opportunities. Winning is not the objective, development, growth and perseverance are the essential skills that build lifelong learners. Even in the greatest challenges, we learn to move forward.

We engage our students in a wide range of competitions both within the school and beyond the school and the type of competition changes depending on the students' end in mind. If we have a student who loves science then we search out competitions that can unleash their passion and potential in that field. This versatile ensures we adapt and change to meet the needs of our students, placing them at the centre of their learning.

Company Internships

Real Life Experience takes you out of your comfort zone and places you in an environment where you have to adapt and add value. For this very reason, all of our students complete an internship program at some of the best companies and organisations in Jakarta. Students are given the knowledge and tools of how to create their resume, cover letter, the application process and undergo an interview. We would like to thank some of the internship organisations that have hosted our students, such as Bank Indonesia, Femina Group, Pullman Hotels, Honda, Galeries Lafayette.

Overnight Camp

Overnight camp is a holistic improvement activity that takes place surrounded by nature. The objectives of this activity are to grow more independent, become more confident, and develop leadership skills. Moreover, this is an excellent opportunity for students to build friendships right across our Jr and Sr. High school regardless of age.

Community Service

Developing compassion, respect and generosity are skills that go beyond academics and reach into the very core of humanity. We are proud to be supported in all of our community service activities by our wonderful Parent Teacher Organisation (PTO). It is our students' responsibility to be innovative in creating long-term sustainable projects that provide value to our community. Once they have assessed the needs and formulated a coherent plan our students then must seek the backing of our PTO as a safeguard to ensure quality.

This brings students, school and parents together in compassion, respect and generosity while providing real change for those who need it.

Model United Nations (MUN) Club

Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an educational simulation in which students can learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. MUN involves and teaches researching, public speaking, debating, and writing skills, in addition to critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities.

Participants in Model United Nations conferences, known as delegates, are placed in committees and assigned countries, or occasionally other organizations or political figures, where they represent members of that body. They are presented with their assignments in advance, along with a topic or topics that their committee will discuss. Delegates conduct research, before conferences and formulate positions that they will then debate with their fellow delegates in the committee, staying true to the actual position of the member they represent. At the end of a conference, the best-performing delegates in each committee, as well as delegations, are sometimes recognized with awards.

Live in Experience

Context is everything! To appreciate what we have and how we live simply we need to change context and with this new perspective, we learn a great deal. This is the function of our Live in Experience. In the past, our students have experienced living with different communities such as the Baduy. This exposure has been of a huge value to our students.

Field trips

Field trips are hands-on and beyond classroom learning opportunities to explore concepts. Classroom theory and concept is brought to life during Field Trip and put it into practice. Students will go for an excursion 6 times per year with individual objectives for every subject. Various places to visit for the field-trips are selected to provide in-depth information and knowledge to support in-class topic and concept.

The trips are scheduled at the homeroom teacher’s discretion to supplement the learning happening in the classroom. Parents will receive advance notice and are required to sign a permission slip before the student can join the field-trip.

The ratio between teachers and students in each trip is:
Junior and Senior High School: 1 teacher for every 10 students

Parent chaperones are at times required, on field-trips.

The Principal has the right to exclude specific students from attending a field-trip whose presence on the trip would pose a safety or disciplinary risk to themselves or other students.

Learning Exhibition

Every year we host our very own learning exhibition. This is an opportunity for our students to exhibit their projects and research around the school and then for the public to view and directly question the students on what they have learned or gained.

This public exercise is an essential element of student accountability for their studies and allows them to grow in confidence.

End of Year Performance

It is our goal to unleash our student, teachers, and staff potentials to reach their best. At the end of every academic year, we hold a Year End Performance where students perform a play taken from Indonesia’s folklore or international play. This opportunity combines creativity, commitment, hard work, and collaboration for the whole community.
