30 Years of Excellence
Unleashing Potential
Join us as we celebrate three decades of SPM’s commitment to holistic education and community.
Our Journey Since 1996
Unleashing Potential. What began as a visionary spark in 1994 has grown into a three-decade legacy of holistic education and principle-centered leadership. Join us as we look back at the milestones that shaped Sekolah Perkumpulan Mandiri (SPM) into the vibrant community it is today.
The Visionary Beginnings (1994–1996)
The story of SPM started with a simple but powerful goal: to establish a model Indonesian school
By December 1995, these families established "Perkumpulan Mandiri" (the Mandiri Association), a non-denominational, not-for-profit vehicle designed to fund and manage this new educational endeavor
Pioneering Leadership: The "Leader in Me" Era
As the school grew to offer a full spectrum of classes—from Kindergarten and Elementary to Junior and Senior High—it never lost its focus on character development. Seeking a balance between academic achievement and 21st-century skills, the school adopted the 7 Habits framework developed by FranklinCovey, USA.
The journey toward global recognition was a rigorous and inspiring one:
- 2009: Significant staff training began, including "Training for Trainers" and a visit from Dr. Dean Collinwood of the Franklin Covey Center for Advanced Research.
- 2010–2011: The community engaged in multiple visits to AB Combs in the USA, hosted its first Leadership Day, and underwent its first Lighthouse School Audit.
- April 2012: A historic milestone was reached when Sekolah PSKD Mandiri was recognized as the 1st International Lighthouse School outside of America. This prestigious "Lighthouse Status" was officially celebrated on April 4, 2012.
Transformation and Expansion (2015–Present)
On May 30, 2015, the school entered a new chapter, officially transforming from Sekolah PSKD Mandiri into Sekolah Perkumpulan Mandiri (SPM). The launch of the new name and logo was attended by students, parents, and the Board of Mandiri, including the Tahija and Soeryadjaya families.
Today, SPM continues to innovate and expand:
- Holistic Excellence: We utilize both National and Cambridge Curricula to ensure our students are prepared for the global stage.
- Continued Leadership: Our commitment to the "Leader in Me" program remains steadfast, with successful Lighthouse Recertifications in 2016, 2017, and most recently in 2025.
- The Panglima Polim Campus: In 2024, SPM took a major leap forward by opening the new Panglima Polim Campus. This modern facility for Junior and Senior High students features advanced labs, an innovative Maker Space Area, and a performance stage, all designed to elevate the learning experience.
From 25 students in a small building to a multi-campus institution leading the way in character-based education, SPM’s journey is a testament to what happens when a community commits to unleashing the potential in every child.

Vision 2030 & Beyond
A Principle-Centered Future
At the heart of our future is a clear, unwavering vision: to be a principle-centered school that delivers holistic educational excellence. We believe that by fostering an engaged community, we can develop the essential learning skills students need to thrive in an ever-changing world. This commitment is anchored in our continued partnership with the Leader in Me program, ensuring character development remains just as vital as academic achievement.
Sustaining Global Leadership
Our roadmap to 2030 is paved with milestones that prove our enduring quality. Our recent 2025 Lighthouse Recertification serves as a global gold standard, confirming that SPM continues to be a world-class model for leadership and character-based education. By blending the National and Cambridge Curricula, we ensure our students are not only locally grounded but also globally competitive.
As we move beyond our 30th year, our promise to you remains the same: an unwavering dedication to your child’s growth, potential, and future.
