SPM 6th Graders Make Their Mark at Yale University

It is often said that age is just a number, but for SPM Sekolah Perkumpulan Mandiri, it is proof that leadership and academic potential start early. We are thrilled to celebrate our youngest champions, Thiphilia and Zoey (6th Grade), who recently returned from the United States with medals in hand.

Competing against older and more experienced scholars from around the globe, these two primary students stood their ground at the World Scholar’s Cup: Tournament of Champions 2025 at Yale University. Their journey from our classrooms to the halls of an Ivy League institution is a powerful example of the "Leader in Me" spirit in action.

A Foundation for Future Success

The Tournament of Champions is known for its rigorous challenges, yet Thiphilia and Zoey navigated the competition with grace and intelligence. Their results highlight not just specific subject knowledge, but a well-rounded grasp of the world.

Zoey (6th Grade) earned a prestigious distinction as a generalist scholar.

  • Silver Medal as the Asimov Scholar. (Note: The Asimov Award is given to students who demonstrate excellence across multiple subject areas, proving Zoey's broad curiosity and knowledge base.)

Thiphilia (6th Grade) displayed exceptional communication skills and creativity.

  • Silver Medal in Debate.

  • Silver Medal for 53rd place in Challenge - Art & Music.

Building Leaders One Habit at a Time

At SPM Sekolah Perkumpulan Mandiri, we strive to instill the 7 Habits and the confidence to find one's voice. Seeing our 6th graders debate and compete on an international level is the ultimate reward for our community. They have shown that they are not just students, but global citizens ready to tackle complex challenges.

Congratulations, Thiphilia and Zoey! This is only the beginning of your academic journey, and the entire SPM family looks forward to seeing where your talents take you next.
