A Double-Victory Story from Jakarta to Malaysia
If there’s one thing we know for sure at Sekolah Perkumpulan Mandiri (SPM), it’s that our students are built for the long haul—whether that’s in the classroom or the deep end of a pool. Today, we are incredibly proud to celebrate Karen (Grade 7), who has recently dominated the water in both artistic and competitive swimming.
From local Jakarta pools to international lanes in Malaysia, Karen has shown what it means to lead with discipline, grace, and incredible stamina.
The Multi-Talented Mermaid
Artistic swimming is a unique blend of dance, gymnastics, and swimming that requires immense core strength and breath control. Karen didn’t just compete; she swept the podium across several technical disciplines in the Junior High School Level competition across DKI Jakarta.
But she didn't stop at technical artistry. Karen also proved her endurance by taking on the 800m Freestyle—one of the most grueling distances in competitive swimming—at the MIAG (Malaysia Invitational Age Group) 2026, bringing home a podium finish against top regional talent.
Karen’s Medal Haul
| Competition | Event | Placement |
| DKI Jakarta Junior High Level | Artistic Swimming | 1st Place 🥇 |
| DKI Jakarta Junior High Level | Artistic Swimming Side Kick | 2nd Place 🥈 |
| DKI Jakarta Junior High Level | Artistic Swimming Eggbeater | 3rd Place 🥉 |
| MIAG Malaysia 2026 | 800m Freestyle (Age 13–14) | 3rd Place 🥉 |
Diligence in Motion
Karen’s success is a shining example of the 7 Habits in action. Balancing the technical precision of artistic swimming with the raw stamina needed for an 800m freestyle requires "Putting First Things First" and a whole lot of "Sharpening the Saw."
As we celebrate SPM's 30th Anniversary, Karen reminds us that "Unleashing Potential" happens one lap at a time. Whether she is performing a perfect eggbeater kick or powering through the final 50 meters of an international race, Karen represents the spirit of excellence that defines our school.
"Victory isn't just about the medal; it's about the hours of training when no one is watching. Karen, your dedication is an inspiration to the entire SPM family!"
